I have a Quicktime movie embeded in this page that will not play unless it is fully downloaded.
I created it with iMovie and clicked "prepare for internet" and chose "standared web server." I thought that was all I needed to do. Did I miss anything?
I also noticed in iCab that it said the <embed> tag was an extension of Netscape and not part of HTML 4.0. If this is so, what is the proper tag to put Quicktime in a web page? Perhaps my coding is wrong and that is why you have to download the whole thing first?
Please tell me what I am doing wrong or point me in the right direction. Thanks.
(I know the images don't load on that page)

Wish I could help, but actually I'm having the exact same problem you are, only with a few iTunes-created mp3's I'd like to stream.
If someone knows the answer to what we need to do, please speak now or forever hold your peace.... :^>

This may be a bug in QuickTime 4 that should be fixed in 5, but I have not tried it yet. You should be able to export the movie using the "Fast Start" setting to have it play while it downloads, but for some reason it does not work right with QuickTime 4.
The workarround I discovered a while back is to export the movie using the "Movie to Hinted Movie" settings, and then delete the hint tracks from the resulting movie file (the hint tracks are only needed for use with a QuickTime Streaming Server, not HTTP streaming).

Actually, I am using QT5pr2. I did notice however, that when exporting under iMovie, some of the options aren't present - just "prepare for internet" and picking which type of server. I don't know which ones are missing, just that I remember seeing more before...
I am also having problems here if anyone can help with that. Thanks.

OK, I apologize for the confusion. I was referring to the export from the QuickTime Player application. I assumed you had QuickTime Pro.
Are you using iMovie or iMovie 2? This may also be a bug in iMovie, but if it's iMovie 1, it's a sure bet Apple will not fix it. They'll just tell you to get iMovie 2.

I have iMovie 2, Quicktime 5pr2, and Quicktime Pro (Mac OS 8.6).

There is an actual setting when you create QuickTime movies that allows them to be played before they have finished downloading. I will post how you do this in another reply after I give it a try so I dont send you on a wild goose chase.
