Sorry if this has been addressed here before.
I've gotten Quicktime Pro 5.0 as a result of Apple promoting it on their website as having the ability to compress a Quicktime .mov into an MPEG1 format. However, having worked with the program, I have found no such functionality. What am I doing wrong??
If in fact QT5Pro can't do this, then I'll go ahead and have them process my refund as per their 30 day money back guarantee. But if I'm being a dolt and can't figure it out, your guidance would be most appreciated!
Meanwhile, if I can't get my .mov to become MPEG1 via Quicktime, does anyone have a suggestion to help me reach this goal?
TIA

You're not doing anything wrong. Apple did originally promise MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 codecs for QuickTime. But none of those were ever included in the public beta and they did not appear in the QT 5.0.1 release. The Sorensen 3 codec also did not ship with the "final" version. Apple has now promised these codecs for a future QT update. Besides that, I think that $30 is well worth the other features of QT Pro and these features will arrive with an update someday.
Roxio Toast 5 Titanium is the only reasonably priced commercial software you can use to convert a .mov file to MPEG-1 (Toast 5 comes with two plug-ins, one for iMovie to export your iMovie to a Toast 5 Video CD and a QuickTime 5 Pro plug-in to convert any QuickTime compatible file into a Toast 5 VCD).
You can find some MPEG utilities here: http://www169.pair.com/lukifer/dvd.html

Thanks very much for your helpful information and tips!!
It sounds like the Toast 5 Titanium will fit my needs perfectly - am looking at their website right now.
If Apple modifies their software in a way that changes its abilities or functionality, they should note that these changes have been made and that updates are being prepared. I have scoured their website for the information I needed and couldn't find it anywhere. Their telephone support people were also no help, although very friendly.
So once again, thanks to these forums, I can move forward. BTW, OT - have these forum load times slowed significantly in the last couple of weeks, or again, is it just me?
Cheers,

Depends which final you have installed, for example 5.0.2 has it.
