How do I get mp3's ripped by iTunes to stream from my Web site?

I'm a singer ... I recently used iTunes to convert three pieces of mine from CD tracks to mp3's, in the hope that people would be able to listen to them, streaming, over the Web while the download was still under way.

Alas, it seems that some/most players cannot stream the mp3's, and instead they have to download fully before they can be played.

Is there something I can do on my side, short of buying a special software package and installing it on my server? Are there some players capable of streaming garden-variety mp3's such as are created by iTunes? Or do I need a better mp3 creator, one capable of ripping streamable files?

(The pieces are at http://zwieback.com/ewestby/ewresume.html if you're interested.)

Many thanks,
Eric Westby

IE likes to open QuicTime content in a new window, and therefore downloads the whole thing before displaying the content. Navigator on the other hand, does play these files as they download (HTTP progressive download streaming) using the QuickTime Plugin.

For a discussion on RTP/RTSP streaming vs. HTTP progressive download streaming, check out Apple's QuickTime Authoring page.
