I have a Griffin iMic hooked to my iBook and my audio casette deck hook in. But...what now??? What software do I need to make an mp3 file out of something on an audio tape? Can iPhoto do it?--I can't find anything. Is there a site that provides such info?

Are you using OS X or 9? In X you can use

SparkME (it's free), or Sound Studio. Roxio just released a verson of CD spin doctor for OS X, but I've never tried it. For OS 9, I use coaster - it's a no-frills app that saves the audio stream to the HD as an .aiff that you can then burn to CD or convert to mp3.

Thanks for a speedy reply! I will investigate those suggestions. I am working largely in OS 9.2.3 but also when I have the right software in X. So maybe this is an occasion to go X!! I also just received a very strong recommendation from another source to download The Analogue Ripper (TAR) and give it a try--it's OS9, I feel sure.

Tried out The Analogue Ripper (TAR) in concert with iTunes, and it is just wonderful and a great low price for what it does!!! This has worked so well, I haven't gotten around to finding SparkME for OS X but will do that next.
