I am looking into editing analog video at home. I will be using either Premiere 5.1 or Final Cut Pro, but do not have a digital camera. I'm looking to input home movies and other things in to my computer to edit and then put back onto VHS. It looks like these two devices are what are reccommended to accomplish this. I just did not want to purchase anything until I knew a little more about them. Has anyone used these devices and can give me pros and cons of either? Your help is MOST appreciated. Thank you.

I haven't used either of those products, but I have used Sony's converter box (DVMC-DA1), which is a similar product. The converter worked flawlessly for me in both Premiere and Final Cut Pro. I work with DV regularly, and the converter box made capturing, editing, and outputting analog-based video very much like DV. In fact, once the footage was captured into the computer, there was no difference in the files. From what I know, the Formac Studio is supposed to work the same way.

Hope this helps!

Danny
