1) AVI issue:
HELP! No matter what Indeo Video CoDec I install, I STILL can't seem to play any .AVI video clips. All I get is the audio track with the usual warning box that tells me it couldn't recognize the compression technique or whatever. Is there any way to remedy this, or is there another video player that can decode AVI's properly for the Mac?

2) Splitting MPEG clips - I have Quicktime Pro and I want to take an MPEG movie and cut it into 2 smaller file-sized clips for faster downloading. But everytime I try to cut and paste a segment of the original clip into a new Quicktime Player, it gives me the portion of the video I wanted, but retains the FULL file size of the original clip.

Is there a way to chop up MPEGs with Quicktime, or is there another application (a SIMPLE and EASY one, not Adobe Premiere!) where I can slice and splice MPEG movies?

Thanks!

1) Some AVIs just cannot play on the Macintosh no matter what codecs you have. Some AVIs are actually DivX files. You'll need to download it at http://mac.divx.st. It will require Windows Media Player 6.3 to run. If that doesn't work, then you'll just have to play the file inside Virtual PC.

2) I have similar problems with cutting and pasting in QT Pro. You can convert the MPEG into a DV stream and edit it using iMovie, then re-encode it into MPEG. If you don't have iMovie, download the 1.0 version from Apple. They reposted the free version.
