Hey guys! Glad I found this site... looks like you guys know what you're talking about. First off, is there a special forum for Mac filmmakers?

I've been filmmaking since I was 6, been using school's editing hardware and software. I'm receiving a loan for a new Canon GL-1 and a new computer. The only problem is: I don't know much about what's best for a filmmaker like me. I usually make shorts but am currently ready to make a feature, so I need a computer with lots of space and a software program with great tools.

It would be great if you could point me in the right direction for this. Thanks for your time.

There's a "Multimedia and DV" forum. DV can be done with iMovie2 and an iMac, but if you're really serious you're going to want FinalCutPro ($1000) running on a 733 or a dual 533. You can read about those machines in the "PowerMac G4" forum.

since you've been making films for a long time, i'll categorize you in the advanced column.

but since you're a beginner on the mac, start out with the simplest option, iMovie. not as a tool to make a full length picture, but as something to smooth your transition into the mac and video. you can practice capturing, editing, and some of the basics.

once you're more comfortable, go for Final Cut Pro 2.
that's what i use. i previously used Premier 4.2.1 but version 5 gave me a headache, so i ditched it. final cut is powerful, easy to use right out of the box for basic editing needs, and you know that apple is going to keep upgrading it.

do you already have a machine? need advice on HD brands? speeds? etc..
