hello there, i am looking into getting a dv camera and thought i would throw my choices out here and see what the consenses was. My options
1. Sony DCR TRV-17 which i can get for $750 roughly. Although I have found it with a package that includes a few more lenses, tripod, case and some filters for around $1100.

or

2. Canon GL-1 for $1400 which is more of a pro model but it comes with no extras.

now for the ups and downs. i would eventually like to use the camera for semi-professional shooting. and i was told both of these cameras work very well. does anyone know if there is much of a quality difference between the two. I know the extra lenses would come in handy for the sony but if i am going to get home video quality, it isn't really worth it. price is also somewhat of an issue, i would have to save for either camera but i would rather save longer if the canon definately outweighs the sony.

i would appreciate any feedback on either camera and any advice or other recommendations.

FWIW I got a TRV17 just 3 days ago and love it. The GL1 might be more suitable for semi-pro work, however. Plus it looks like a pro camera
