Greetings,

I'm filming a "How To" CD Rom for a local factory. How can I make a "MacAddict-like" CD rom interface so that when the user pops the CD in, they can view the various video clips after clicking on the appropriate "link?"

Any suggestions?

Also, is it possible to make the same interface that will work on Windows machines?
Thanks!

Rob

Best bet would be Macromedia's Director, or if you are lucky and got one of the new G4's with that superdrive and iDVD, but then you will be doing a DVD instead of a CD.

While Director is the natural choice for a project like this, it is an expensive and overly complicated program. It isn't exactly an easy program to learn. Plus, you'll need to get both a Mac and Windows version if you want to deliver the cd-rom on both platforms.

I'd recommend building your inferface as a webpage and including both Mac and Windows versions of either Netscape or Internet Explorer on the cd-rom. If you use a combination of images, cascading style sheets, and layers, you can get identical interfaces across both platforms.

Well, Director does have a bit of a learning curve, but I don't know that it's too much more complicated than website construction ("images, cascading style sheets, and layers" oh my!). The first time I used it I created the project I needed in about five hours.

The good news is, the very smart folks at Macromedia will allow you to download a fully functional version of Director and try it out for 30 days. Do this. It might surprise you. Especially if your needs are pretty basic.

Of course, it IS expensive and I think that you may even need to buy a PC version if you want to create a cross-platform CD. So, you may want to download Dreamweaver while you're at it. If Director proves too challenging then maybe a simple web interface is the answer.
