I am running iTunes on a G4 desktop and it works fine except doesn't go off to the CDDB database and get the track names.
There are other machines of same spec etc here and it works fine -- I am running 9.04 International English.
Has anyone else encountered this problem ? If so, help! as its very annoying!

Are you sure the option is checked that makes it automatically connect to CDDB when you insert a CD? That's the only thing that comes to my mind. . .I've never had a problem with accessing CDDB.

Another idea, but I really doubt, is that you have some really obscure music. CDDB has lots of albums, but not all of them.
Also, I think there is another database similar to CDDB, but I'm not sure where it's at. You may want to search for it. Seeing as I've never had this problem, I'm really just going on guesses here. Sorry, guys, I wish I could help more.

So in short it is a known problem for some people but it hasn't been identified what the cause is?

iTunes CDDB not working? Here is what I did to fix this problem in my computer...
1. Trash the CDDB preferences
2. Quit and open iTunes
That's it!

I have the same problem. iTunes will try to make the connection, though, but there's always some "connecting problem".
I'll try to get rid of the prefs, maybe it works for me.

Yep, it worked for me!!!
But if I try it with an illegal CD (sssst) it doesn't work. Maybe that's normal.

Remove ALL the bits and extensions and reinstall iTunes. For some reason the installer can be a bit buggy. I recently cleaned up a DVSE for a friend who was having the same problem. Also, the download itself may have been corrupted. The first time I downloaded iTunes it would NOT install on my G4/433 iMac, it simply refused. I downloaded it again and everything was fine. Go figure.
