DVD playback - Sawtooth to TV

Since I bought my G4 I've been strugling to watch DVDs on my 17" monitor. I wonder if there is any good way of sending the signal to a TV. E4 used to make some DVD kits that allowd this, but they used to be expensive and I don't think it would be a practical solution in my case.I also heard about scan converters but don't know if they're the best solution.
I also have a Sony DV media converter, but since DVDs are MPEG2 instead of DV, I don't think it will help.

Please post your suggestions.
