The Issue: A user has a slideshow program, Kai’s Power Show; he wants to output the image to mini-DV tape, yet the slideshow application does not send video out to Firewire. He would prefer the output to be digital rather than analog.
The Partial Solution: Said user can go out from his iMac's VGA port to the input of a number of bridge products. TVView is one variety he could use. Yet, this forces said user to go out through VGA to the TVView bridge and then out from the bridge through S-Video or Composite to the input on his digital deck. Remember, the user would rather have it be a DV stream out.
What's Needed: Therefore, if the user wishes to go digital out, yet his program doesn't send out to Firewire, then we need another component that doesn't yet exist on the market, to my knowledge. We would need either: 1) a DVI to Firewire adapter/bridge that would send the digital signal out through ADC/DVI and into the firewire device, OR 2) a software patch that when activated would send all video out to the Firewire bus.
The Upshot: I believe my analysis of the situation is valid. If anyone knows of a way to accomplish digital out in conjunction with one of my proposed solutions or with a different solution, I would really appreciate that information. Thank you so much!
