are you looking for just any free mp3's, or are you looking specifically for certain mp3's?

you could just do a web search for free mp3's. hell, even amazon.com offers some free mp3's/music downloads.

so you're just looking for ANY mp3's, and you don't care who the artist is?

oh, so you're looking for file sharing apps then. why didn't you say so?

well, you can use Limewire and search for mp3's. it's a Gnutella client, and i believe now Morpheus is also using the Gnutella network.

i really like using Audiogalaxy to find mp3's. for the most part, i can find all the songs i'm looking for. if you're unfamiliar with audiogalaxy and how it works, i suggest reading up on it at their website. you will need a audiogalaxy satellite application to use the site. i think there are a few out there. for OS X, i recommend Sputnix, and for OS 9, there's MacSatellite. I usually only use X, so i have no experience with MacSatellite.

"don't steal music"

with that said, macsatelite sucks...big time. the few times i've tried opening it up under 9.2.2, it brings down the whole system within a few minutes. so avoid it if you're using OS 9.

Here's a program nobody mentions. It's new but I"ve been using it for a couple months and like it a lot.

I say Audiogalaxy all the way. The one thing I like to do at lunch is pick music from the site, only to have it download on my computer at home... VERY cool... and OSX ready!
