I'm amazed at what iMovie2 can do (even with its quirks and limitations.)I'd like to share with you a short film I just finished editing using iMovie2. It's a tribute to the heroes and victims of 9/11 called 'God Bless the USA.' You'll find it at http://homepage.mac.com/rcfuzz . Comments and questions are welcome.

Very nice, one of my favorite songs of all time by the way. The WTC rebuilding up at the end should be edited out, tends to give it an all is alright again feel that isn't there.

i thought that part was awesome--defiant in a way. sure, it may not be reality, but everyone knows that.
good job, but one problem:
the part i didn't like about this little movie was the firefighter funeral that you show. having seen the documentery on CBS, i know that funeral had nothing to do with september 11th. that is made clear in the documentery, but your edit is misleading--it appears after the WTC's fall, and therefore is suggested to be a funeral for people who died in the WTC.
this is false, and not really fair to the families and firefighters involved. first, that firefighter died fighting a fire, and his family probably wouldn't want the circumstances of his death misrepresented.
secndly, in the shot of the funeral there is one shot of a lot of firefighters (i believe). these are, by your edit's suggestion, survivors of the WTC attack. however, the real possibility exists that some people in that shot did not survive. their family's probably wouldn't want them to appear in this way.
anyway, just a thought. good job, though

Matt,
Thanks for the nice words about the film and I understand your criticism. It was never my intention to offend any one, especially the families of those who died in the WTC. There were two funeral scenes in the documentary, one of the rookie who died before the WTC, and the other was the funeral of the chief's brother who did die in the WTC. In my little film I used footage from both. The video was never meant to be an accurate depiction of the events of that terrible day. I created the film to express some of the emotions I feel about the the heroes and victims of 9/11. If you look at the film it that perspecive I think it works. Remember, I didn't have access to all the raw footage which was shot for the documentary. I had to work with whatever was broadcast.
Take care.
Bob

Funny that you had a problem with this but not the WTC re-building it self. Talk about misrepresentation.

Still nice work though.

Nicely done.
I can't believe how much pain I still feel over that day.
(FWIW: I liked the rebuilding at the end .... it's a video I'd like to send to Al Qieda.)
I guess you now realize how hard it is to create such a video without offending someone. The folks that made that special should be commended. That was a VERY difficult job and they did it very well.

yeah, i know--it seems a little contradictory. but, there is a difference. anyone seeing the video would KNOW the end wasn't true, whereas they would assume that funeral was a post-911 funeral.
oh, and the flash that occurs right as they are finished being rebuilt, which coincides with a drum beat or something in the song, is pretty cool.

It upsets me when I see people talking more about the loss of two buildings more then the thousands of people that died inside of them. We can rebuild anything, other then human lives. I'm still aching over the loss of 2000+ families that will never fully recover from the events. I guess this brings up the whole “rebuild the towers or build a park/memorial in honor” issue. I’m furious that this event has taken place, but have come to accept that there is little we can do other then support our military and keep our eyes open for more terrorists.
I love that song, and love the section where the people are standing around with the sign "New York's spirit is strong!" That says it all... As Japan said in WWII "Don't wake the sleeping giant” I still believe that this is true in the society as a whole.

Driven,
I never expected my simple little film would stir up any controversey but I guess that's all part of the creative process.
I agree the original documentary was fantastic - much better than I ever expected - and I hope the two brothers who made the documentary are not offended by the liberties I took with their footage.
Glad you liked it.

Didn't mean to upset you. Yeah it's small patatoes to lose two buildings as compaired to one human life. Was simply commenting on the video. I haven't forgotten what has happened and how it's effected to many.

Very well done.
Personally I like the part where you "rebuilt the towers" I am really getting fed up with people who just want to admit that terrrorism always wins... It's the unfortunate truth, but when you just sit and refuse to make a difference such as fight terrorism, and prevent this from happening again, and you just sit and hope people pitty you, you do in fact help terrorism win, and in a way (IMHO) become a terrorist yourself. As far as I am concerned the buildings will aways be there in my mind, and those who did these acts, are not.... now lets see who is left standing in the end... America or Terrorism?
Terrorism is a form of propiganda much more than a tactic of war. While it is physical, the real damage is in the minds and hearts of those who are attacked. By showing them that it did succeed in ruining the American spirit, in a sence you are saying.. "it worked, good job." I for one will die before that happens. I will always see the NYC skyline every time I approach the city as if it were still there. I don't plan to ever visit a memorial, because even though I do feel great sympathy for every victim and their family, I think the real memorial is in our hearts. Anything we build will be a memorial to terrorism itself.
Anyway, I am really off topic... but great video. Really good.
