Hi!
I don't know if this is known, but I just found
out that there is a major difference in the
way that the Apple CD Audio Player and iTunes work.
I have 2 CD players in my SuperMac, one burner
and a standard CD-player, both from Matshita.
The sound coming from the CD has never been
great, with hearable distortion, (the sound is routed
through my iX Micro TV card, so this could be the cause),
but now I have found out that iTunes don't use the
standard audio cabling from the CD-player, because
right now I'm listening to music from my CD-player, and
that CD-player is not connected to the audio cable.
Instead the sound must be transferred digital through the
SCSI chain, and being decoded by iTunes (Quicktime ?).
For the first time, in several years, I can now enjoy
listening to music from CD on my elderly Mac, cool!
