Is there a program that will capture ALL audio? Including system sounds and anything that goes through the Soundcard?

I'm not just talking about capturing Sound In from a mic. I know there are plenty of programs for that.

There is an extension in OS 9 that will capture all audio thru the system and save as AIFF file. It's called AIFF Writer. I've used it many times to capture obscure radio shows (some in Real Audio). it captures System beeps and app sounds as well. Anything that might produce a sound but writes it to a file.

It's pretty foolproof and captures everything to a file. I'm trying to find something similar in OS X.

a mini to mini cord going from the speaker or headphone jack to the mic port will work. Just use a sound recording app.

If all you want to do is capture real audio streams, there is a shareware app called Streambox VCR. It is a windows program but works perfectly under Virtual PC. What you do is feed it the URL of the real media stream you want and it downloads it. You can even set it to whatever connection speed you want so it will get the best quality version even over a modem (just takes longer). You can then use another Windows app called ra2wav which will convert the real audio you downloaded to a wav file. Then you can use Quicktime or iTunes or whatever to turn it into an AIFF.

Complicated process but you will end up with the best quality version available.

Yeah. I do use StreamBox on the PC now and then but I was trying to stay on the Mac (OS X). Besides i've run into some sites that StreamBox won't record because they use a pre-recorded insert stream and then divert to the Real audio file. I'm not sure what to call it but it makes SB worhtless.

OwlBoy, I could do that but there must be some quality loss because of the analog conversion, don't you think? Rather keep it all digital.

Like I said, I was looking for some extension like AIFF Writer for OS X. I wish I knew who wrote that. I could ask if a OS X version is in the works.

Hmm does snapz Pro X work for it then? I think you can turn off the video record and just do audio
