I though I read somewhere that you could use the ZR20 as an Analog to DV converter. So now that I have a ZR20, I can't find that info anywhere!

Does anyone know if it is possible to go from my VCR through the ZR20 into my G4 via Firewire without recording and playing back from the ZR20? If so, is it also possible to do the same thing in the other direction?

THANKS!!

I don't know the ZR-20, but I have a Canon Elura2, and you can't use it as an on-the-fly converter. You have to record the analog onto mini-DV tape first, then go from the mini-DV tape into the Mac via Firewire (same process in the other direction). I expect that the ZR-20 is the same.

Some of the Sonys have on-the-fly conversion, but I still prefer my Canon overall. IMO the extra step isn't that big a deal.

I have a ZR10 (which is basically the same as a 20) and you can't just convert it 'on-the-fly.' You have to record it to a DV tape first then go from the DV to the computer.
