I'm using CW java 4, and every program I try to run gives a java.io.UnsupportedEncodingException error and the title bar of the applet viewer is filled
with gibberish characters. I couldn't find reference to this error in the docs. I also get frequent crashes and general weirdness like the apple menu suddenly disappearing. I've never had any problem until 2 days ago (even running the exact same java programs) and the only thing that's changed on my system in that time is installing Quicktime 4. Apple recommends using QT3 with MRJ 2.1.1, so I know there's some connection between QT and Java. I've tried reinstalling CW, MRJ and even a clean system install (8.5.1) but it still is messed up.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Follow-up: uninstalled QT4, reinstalled QT3. Everything works perfectly.

Apple is committed to having "the best Java platform," remember? Just don't expect to be able to use QT at the same time.

I'm using CW pro 4 and am doing java development and everything is fine for me with QT 4.
I don't know what to tell you about the java.io exeception, but about the apple menu disappering, I found this to happen 80% of the time when I change the "java application settings..." in the edit menu and saving the changes. It's a bug in CW.
Other then that, I don't know what to tell ya.
