Greetings.

If I want to play footage from my digital video camera straight into my Mac via firewire and view it on the screen, I can use iMovie, right? But I'm limited to seeing the video in the viewer window, with all the menus and timelines and soforth still on the screen. I know that I can play video fullscreen if I record it onto the hard drive first, but that's not what I'm after. How can I play a DV stream straight from the camera and show it live and fullscreen on the mac?

Thanks.

Good question.

I have a Formac Studio Pro which digitizes video to DV format and streams it to your computer via Firewire. The included software can display that stream full screen. This doesn't directly answer your question but it indicates it is possible.

Quicktime should be able to do this but I couldn't find anything about it in the help messages. It should be similar to telling it to open a URL and display a stream.

Maybe you should post on Apple's discussion boards.

BTV and or BTV Pro can do this, check out versiontracker for it, its avaliable for OS 9 and OS X. It also has other cool features.
