I went to view the Phantom Menace video on Apple's site. I tried viewing the 640x288 @44 khz movie. Usually, there is a preview image that the user is suppose to click on. The image did not show up and an install sequence was initiated. The installer launched and I downloaded files. It expanded them. But then it asked to install "disk^" into the floppy drive. I have a blue and white G3 350 with 192 megs of ram. It is running OS 8.6b9 (Harald). It has 1.4b11 rom file. My machine does not have a floppy drive. I pressed stop on the insert disk dialog 2 times. Then the machine bombed.
When I rebooted I rebuilt my desktop. Then I ran the installer again. It loaded and installed the files properly.
Then I went back to the page and the preview image was present. I clicked on the image and then watched the movie.
I also noticed the installer can run while QT is active in the browser or possibly another program. Looks like the installer should be very careful in that situation. That is, if it gonna play with software that is in use.
Otherwise, I like QT 4. It appears to be running great on my system.
Streaming is better than Real Player 5. My experience is, if the Real Player 5 plugin is embedded in a web page then when you quit your browser the entire machine will crash! Having an alternative streaming player is a good thing!
