Hello to all.

I am trying to setup a good looking multichannel-audio-thing at home and must admit that the "Apple Pro Speakers" have the best design I have seen so far: I am willing to sacrifice audio quality if the design is perfect +/- epsilon^2 .

My question is:

Is there any way to actually connect these speakers to a 5.1 amplifier ?The connector of the A.P.Speakers is specific to certain Apple Computers, is it not ? Any known or tested way to get around that limitation ?

As you may have understood, I don't want to use a Mac in the setup (not that I don't like Macs, I just want to do it without any PC), so iSub and Sound sticks are unfortunately out of the question.

Hope my question makes sens in this forum.

POM

P.S: Please excuse my poorly written english.

In fact I did a conversion for these to be able to plus them in a Rev C iMac (standard audio jack) so you can do that with a stereo I guess
The problem is that they seem to be powered by the AP jack, since they are not very powerful now, compared to when they were plugged in my G4.

So I just used an old amplifier to power them and make them louder. It works OK. You should be able to use them easily !!

Thanks for the answer.

It is true that these speakers (the latest ones that come with the iMac not those for the Cube) must be amplified. I'm more of a theoretical guy (typical French University product) so I must ask you HOW you performed this conversion: you striped the wires ? Built a jack adaptor ?

My final goal would be to have 4 or more of them plugged into an DTS/DD/DPL Receiver like a set of Home Cinema 5.1 speakers. These usually have 2 wires per speaker coming out of them !!!

Any more advice would be welcome.

P.S: Nice web site, makes me want to finish my PostDoc here in Rotterdam
and find a job in the south of France. Actualy, maybe I should leave the numerical simulation field to make potery and cheese in the Cevennes with the rest of my family ...
