24 bit built in audio?

I was thinking today about how the built in audio systems in Macs have been pretty much unchanged in years, with the exception of moving into the purely digital transport of CD audio.
The absence of hardware support for 24bit audio made sense under OS9, since I'm pretty sure that Sound Manager or another part of the system software couldn't support anything above 16bit.
But now we're transitioning to X, and with Jaguar rumored as having an overhauled CoreAudio system, the software potion of the equation should not be an issue.
So does anyone else think that Apple should move to higher quality 24bit audio in their machines? Price is pretty much a non-issue I believe, since DA converters are real cheap.
We need less Democrats and Republicans, and more people that think for themselves.

I dunno how great it'd be.

All 24 bit would do is allow you to record the noise floor of your built-in audio circutry more precisely. To really do it right, Apple would have to start making their pre-amps and what-not higher quality than the situation demands. Make sense?

It would hold triply true for laptops...getting the noise floor on those things down is next to impossible.
