Hello everybody, I have just got a G4 at 867Mhz, starting to make my own videos from a miniDV cam. Could anyone suggest what editing software I should go for? I have previously worked with Avid, very good but very expensive as well (wasn't mine). Any opinions on EditDV, Final cut Pro, or any others welcome. Thanks in advance.

Final Cut Pro. Nothing compares, honestly...

It'd be way up there on my list of "best software ever".

It competes with and beats other packages in most areas, but it is easy too... I just finished making a movie with it, for presentation, and man... when you're like me, and do it at the last minute... it's simply brilliant.

I wouldn't even bother looking at anything else

FCP 2 rocks hard.

I'd have to agree on the Final Cut Pro thing. Adobe premiere is pretty powerful, but you tend to have to sit around and wait a lot. Final Cut is really good about using dead time to do its transition magic.

It seems kind of dorky, but iMovie is pretty sweet too. Not as many features as FCP or Premeire (duh), but I think its great.

I'm gonna play devils advocate here and throw my bid in for EditDV. Radius is probably one of my favorite environments to work in. Its rendering will kick the pants off of the slow ass Final Cut rendering speed. If you have no experience in video editing, forking the money up for one of these programs is probably not going to be worth it. iMovie is probably a good starting spot for you, honestly.
