I've got a DCR-TRV30 which I believe is last year's model. I absolutely love this cam and am so happy I bought it. The features, ease of use, 3.5" screen, 1.5 MP stills, etc. make this a great camera. It was originally $1700 but I got it on sale for $1300.

Gankdawg,
If I want to copy some old VHS stuff do I hace to copy it to the camera and then to my mac or does it do a pass through?
Also what is the quality of the digital picture when captured to the memory stick? and do they mount under X with a memory stick reader?
sorry for the questions but they're 2.5k down hereand I don't want to **** up
cheers
Jock

I don't know if it does a pass through on the way in. You can export footage to a VHS tape through the video camera. You take out the tape, check a box in iMovie preferences, and iMovie will export your movie through the videocamera directly into a VCR.
The quality of the pictures taken with the memory stick are good as long as their is PLENTY of light. I haven't figured out how to take good indoor pictures with it yet. Outdoor pictures are pretty good though. It's definitely not a digital cam replacement unless you have less then a 1.5 MP camera now.
The memory stick mounts on the desktop perfectly with X, no reader required.
Let me know if you other questions - you can email me at gankdawg@mac.com since I don't check this forum on a regular basis.

If you are a consumer (like me) ...
... then save yourself a mountain of cash and get instead either the Sony DCR-TRV-140 or DCRTRV-240. I bought the TRV-140 for $440. Two-thumbs up IMO.
The -240 is $100 more, but it offers the pass-thru feature and has a 'horn' for mounting a light, etc..
But if you want the other one for professional reasons, then nevermind what i said.
