Hi,

anyone have experience with analogue to digital video converters? There are a few on the market - just want some opinions as to which to get and how good etc they are.

Also, anyone know if I can unplug my internal zip drive and replace it with a third HD?

thanks in advance

Simon

I have the sony one - its a nice unit. is the one to buy if you have a sony camera, since you can hook the convertor up to the camera and control the camera from your computer (imovie, etc). I have also used it as a sound input/output and an output for video to a Tv while I was editing in iMovie.

I've heard the dazzle unit can do a lot of this, but not sure of the camera-controlling feature - this was the clincher.

of course, for not a whole lot more, you can get a low end dv camera, a lot of which will often let you convert video from its inputs....

Many people don't know this, but Sony handycams have them built in.

I can plug a VHS VCR into my TRV-120, and play it through the firewire, thus importing into iMovie.

I have converted many VHS to DVD this way.....
signatures are a waste of bandwidth
especially ones with political tripe in them.

One thing to bear in mind is if your camcorder has been DVin disabled. I know in europe for example the manufacturers have disabled this feature due to tax issues (If they have DVin then it is considered a video recorder and taxed higher!). I do not know if that is true for Australia.

But if you have a sony or canon minidv camcorder and it has DVin/out and Svideoin/out then you can transfer your VHS to your mac and back again to VHS .

It is disabled but the fuctionality is there. You have to go into the menu and turn it on.

This is how it is on my Sony TRV-120 at least.
