I'm looking for an app that will split MPEG files based on markers and not predefined sizes. Basically, I've downloaded MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files for VCDs and SVCDs, respectfully, and I'd like to make natural breaks in the files to assist in searching while viewing. I know these types of chapters can be done by either XML (which I have no clue as to how to setup) or by splitting the file. Are there any apps, preferably OS X native, that exist for splitting both MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files?
So far, I've looked at <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=14014&db=mac" target="_blank">MissingMenuGen</a>, <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=12309&db=mac" target="_blank">JAW MPEG2Splitter</a> and <a href="http://mpgtx.sourceforge.net/" target="_blank">mpgtx</a>.

For splitting MPEG1 files you can use the Quicktime Player. Just set the markers, copy the selected video and paste it into another movie.
Thats how ive been doing it. And its pretty easy and efficent.
As for MPEG2 your on your own. I dont think Quicktime will touch MPEG2 with a 10 foot pole.

I'm using QT 5 Pro in OS X, and I can't copy MPEG-1 files in the QuickTime Player. The Edit menu is grayed out except for Add and Add Scaled.

Well, I've still found nothing on OS X that will do what I want, but I've been using <a href="http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html" target="_blank">TMPGEnc</a> in Virtual PC with good results. I was surprised at how fast it worked in VPC, and, as a result, I'm somewhat content. I'd still much rather have an OS X app with more precise controls, though.
