Ok, this could easily go in the rants section. Maybe I will go ahead and put it there, I don't know. Anyway, to my point. I'm just about sick and tired if these updates from Apple. What could possibly be more improved in QT 4.1? Ooooo wow, a set up assistant, something that atleast every power user that I know really needs. And also, Mac OS 9 is just nearly a joke. Sure you got Sherlock 2 (which is way overrated) and keychain access (which was originally trashed for a reason), for someone like me, that really doesn't cut it. Ok, so now you're going to throw OS X in my face. Go ahead, but I bet you anything that more than half the people who get it are going to be disappointed in some sort of fashion. Complexity and possibly no Finder are both possibilities. I don't care if it's supposed to be "easy to use", any OS with Unix at the core is going to be atleast a little bit confusing, especially to your average guy who just bought an iMac and thinks that OS X is going to be some great thing. He pops in the CD, starts up, installs fine, but when he restarts, he's flabbergasted and doesn't know which way is up. No longer will he be dealing with simple .sit files or self extracting files, but things called "packages", "g-zipped", and .tar files, which are all in some fashion self extracting, but he doesn't know that. Anyway, my point is that Apple needs to come up with some revolutionary stuff here in the form of software. They've done an excellent job in the hardware section, but there are so many pet peeves I have about OS 8.1 through 9 that it's not even funny. Oh yeah, and one other thing that pertains to novice users. What kind of manual is that that comes with all of Apple's OSs? What does Apple do to inform it's novice users of new updates? At my work place, we have atleast 40 mac users, 15 or so were just upgraded to G4s with 8.6 (as opposed to 8.1), and not one of them could tell me a difference in 8.6 to 8.1. I demonstrated a few things that I thought were cool, but they were all available in 8.1 as well, and they didn't even know about it (like spring loaded folders, I think that's an excellent addition). Well, I'm tired of writing now. I hope you all see what I'm saying, and hopefully we can really push Apple to really come up with an upgrade that's really worth a 100 bucks, because looking at advertisements from Apple, I spent $100 on Sherlock 2 and decreased compatibility with some software. Wow, props to Apple! ;-)
