I've decided that I'm going to be doing some digital video work in the near future. It will be for personal use and school projects for the most part, so I don't want to empty my wallet ($100-$200 is my budget for this). I have a fairly old video camera that records to VHS tapes (Panasonic Omnicam anyone?) and works well. Given the circumstances, what would be the best approach to get to the digital video editing stage?
Right now I am considering a Formac ProTV Studio card (~$100). From what I've read I can import the video from the camera, and I'll need another connection cord for the audio part. However, I don't know anything about ProTV's exporting back to the VHS capabilities (does this card even have this feature?). Does this sound like a good setup for me, are there any current users of it that have anything to say, and are there any other solutions in my price range that offer import from a VHS tape and export back to one?
Any advice and comments would be much appreciated.
