or are they cheap and nasty? Can't look at the movie demos as my cr*p pc at work crashes evertime I try and look at a quicktime embeded in explorer

They're great - get them.
Will they turn a crap movie into a good one? Nope, that's up to you. But they are useful (Zoom) and fun (the sparkly ones) and I think they're worth the money. I bought Zoom hours after it was announced.
