Does anyone know how I can capture/export DV footage into QT. I have iMac DV with DV that works fine under iMovie but I wanted to try QT because I can't import graphic files into iMovie (animated ones)

No, u can't capture DV movies into QT. I read this on Apple's bulletin boards. Apparently, QT is just a 'conduit' for DV movies, ie. it is the software interface between the computer and your camera, kinda like a driver. So u still need another application to actually import and edit DV movies, like iMovie.

Not true. DV is just like any other codec in QuickTime. As long as you have the codec, it functions just like any QuickTime movie. I'm not sure the specifics of the iMac, but any FireWire capture application on the Mac should be turning the DV into a QT movie. You can then edit those QT files with an app (iMovie, Final Cut Pro, EditDV, etc.), or even just open them in MoviePlayer.

(Note that I have no experience with iMovie, but it shouldn't be doing this any differently than the others.)

It sounds like you want to put some animated graphics into iMovie. You might try approaching it the other way; instead of trying to bring the DV into QuickTime player, export the animations if you can into DV format, then bring those into iMovie, as that will have the most editing features.

Collin is right. Make sure to update to iMovie 1.0.1. Use Movie Player to Export to a DV Stream, and then put the exported DV file into your iMovie "Project" folder. Then iMovie should be able to recognize/import it.

iMovie does not import DV data sterams unless they are NTSC, I have tried this with movies created on a PAL setting and they will not import I movie wants to "trash them or leave them alone" but will not import them. Any answers?

I am using PAL material shot with a mini DV which I have used on Quicktime Pro and imported into iMovie but saving them as DV stream. I dropped it into the media /projects name file and pestro it works. So the NTSC issues isn't your problem.
