i need to cut and paste some pieces of songs. anyone know a good program for this? when i search mp3 editor, i get a bunch of idtag editors. i know that audion can do this, it just doesnt do it very well and leaves a little tiny space at the beginning which peeves me off. so anyone know any other programs?

If all you want to do is clip parts to make smaller sound files then get Quicktime pro.
If you need to put these pieces together to make some sort of composition. You'll need a real audio editor. Protools free works great.(digidesign.com?). My favorite audio editor is still Macromedia Soundedit 16, probably because its familiar to me though.

Oh one more thing the reason you cannot find MP3 editors through your search engine is because there aren't any. So before you use any of the programs mentioned above. You'll have to decode Mp3s to AIFF files. I believe MPeckers drop decoder is still free. Or use your QT pro since you should buy it anyways.

Chuck: APART FROM AUDION 2.1 (preferably the Classic version)

it works alright, plus there's mEdit (also at versiontracker)

both do direct mp3 cut/copy/paste..

I have been using Audion recently quite often .. just keep in mind NOT to copy & paste different encoding methods/bitrates..

oh and the CARBON version of audion 2.1 doesn't do the cut/copy/paste in the mp3 editor yet..

for free:
use iTunes or soundApp to decode the mp3 file to aiff

for cut and paste work, get something here: http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/mac/
I'm currently working on a pc and can't remember the name of the program I use, but I got it at that site.
