Would someone PLEASE tell me what the heck happened to my quicktime files. I have had the wonderfull experience of the "damaged sound" window and I have never found out EXACTLY why it started happening. All of my files that I downloaded before this problem are fine and any that I download with Anarchie are also fine. What is going on?!?!? I have heard of a couple of obscure and difficult fixes, but I want to know exactly what started to screw up and why. I would like any help or input in helping fix this VERY annoying problem.

Hello smiz93,

Could you provide a little more background information about your situation? That is did you just upgrade to QT4 or 4.xx, and then have the damaged file problem? What files are you having this problem with...avi, mpeg? Are you having this problem when using the QT plug-in and your web browser, or just the QT4 application? If you are having this problem with your web browser how are the file helpers configured for QT in preferences?

I experienced the same problem - it's the file type that has been changed. If you look at the icon of the downloaded MPEG-movies the small letters say 'WAV' which is a sound format. As long as your Mac insists that the file is a sound file, you won't be able to play it as a movie (one bad thing about MacOS when the file type is set wrong as in this case). I went to file exchange in the control panel and added the extension .mpg under QUICKTIME movie (in addition to .mpeg), copied the files in question over to Virtual PC and back and they came out right. There is probably an easier way of doing it via some shareware utilities that can hack the file type for each file, but this worked for me. Now all my new downloads came out as the right file type and everything works properly.

Maybe what I experienced is a related problem.

I created .mp3 files for my website, and QT4 played them flawlessly.

I then uploaded them to my server, then downloaded them via my webpage. Nothing that I can see has changed; file name is the same, "get info" says it's a QuickTime file, etc. After downloading them, QT4 doesn't recognize the files at all. Liquid Player plays them fine. Any ideas?
