This belongs in the Multimedia & DV forum. But basically, you need a video capture device, MPEG encoding software, and CD recording software that can burn the VCD format. Mind you that most full versions of CD recording software for the Mac have the necessary MPEG compression built in, such as Toast and Discribe.

I ordered Toast 5 titanium this week from amazon, and got my notice that it shipped on Saturday. (Roxio's web site suggested it wouldn't ship till April 2nd, but the Amazon pre-order form said it would arrive on the 23rd of March)
So, there is a solution for you. Toast 5 is supposed to encode quicktime to mpeg-1. And, of course, burn VCD.

Other threads have said the beta produced video of questionable quality. I hope that will not be the case.

There was a professional solution... an entire VCD authoring package -- like Apple's DVD studio pro -- by Query Software, a Japan-based company, but since about early January, I've been unable to connect to their site. I found them on Apples product database, and got so far as to speak with a sales rep from their Canadian office. They accepted a limited variety of credit cards, so I couldn't buy it. Now their web site is unreachable. http://www.netviewdisc.com or http://www.internetdisc.com

Do a search with sherlock for Query Software, and you'll find it. Maybe there site is simply being maintenanced.

Hi!!

You just need to spend for about $500 dollars for VCD recorder.
It can record anything such as Music CDs, VCDs, DVDs, TV shows, Video movie tapes, and etc.. It is just like a VCR.
The VCD recorder can use anywhere in the world.
That's because it supports PAL and NTSC video formats.
And it support two common power source in the US, and Asia.
Its quality is very good based on its consumer's feedback.
You just edit your video on your powerbook G3, and then send it back to your camcorder or video tape, and let the VCD recorder(using CD-R/CD-RW discs) record it.
And now, you have created a VCD that you can play on your computer's CD-ROM drive, DVD players, and VCD players.

Sorry, I forgot the company's web site where its sells VCD recorder.
I will come back and post a link on here where you can buy it.
