I have a Lombard 333 PowerBook 192mb RAM, 20gb drive and OS 9.1 QuickTime 5 beta 3. (I also tried it with QT 4.)

I'm trying to get my FireWire2Go card and a Sony DVMC-DA2 converter to work with iMovie2 or Premier 6.

I put in the card and the FireWire icon comes up on the desktop. I didn't install the Newertech enabler because it was for an older version of the OS. (I did try using it in place of the Apple CardBus enabler and it still didn't work.) I plugged the 6-4 firewire cable into the dongle and the sony dvmc. I plugged my camera in via the S-video and r/l audio jacks and set the dvmc to analog in. Powered up the converter and the camera. Launched imovie and it says the camera is disconnected on a blue screen.

I've read that the da2 has problems outputting without a lanc cable to the camera. I plan to pickup one of these to see if it helps as my camera has a lanc.

However, I think I should still be able to import.

How can I go about trouble shooting this problem? Are there ways to test the newertech card? (I don't have any other firewire devices.) How about the sony box? I've tested the camera and it is putting out a signal on both composite and s-video connections.

This is my first attempt at firewire, so I may have missed something very obvious.

thanks for any help,
Chad
