why is it so hard to implement 16:9 video capture on low-end camcorders?

Why not just capture full-screen, then mask the video to 16:9 using QuickTime Pro? I've done this transferring old misic videos to DVD and it works fine.

However, I have the Canon ZR20 that came out a while (2 years?) ago, and it has 16:9 capture.

you lose resolution when you capture 16:9 on lower end camcorders........

I'm just curious why they haven't implemented this feature w/out losing picture quality........

i guess the only work around is a anamorphic lens on a camcorder........

??????
