Okay, I've never really taken color management seriously, but lately I find it tough predicting results I will get on a 4-color press. I have a few questions:

In Freehand 9, the "Monitor Simulates: Separations Printer" options greatly improves my soft proofing. Is this fairly representative of how my work will look on press? How do I use an ICC profile provided by my separator? And How do I calibrate my Epson Stylus Color 890 to produce decent digital proofs?

Another question is this: Are imported four-color TIFF and JPEG files calibrated the same as defined FreeHand colors? In other words, if I import a 4c TIFF or JPEG with a background manually filled in PhotoShop with 45c15m will it match seamlessly on press FreeHand art filled with 45c15m?

I don't have any money for expensive monitors and calibration equipment. I have to work with what I've got. By the way, my machine is a PowerBook G4. Can I get decent on-screen soft proofing with my LCD display?

Thanks for any help.

Actually, I find Colorsync seems much easier to use now than it did in System 7. I'll give it another try. Since no one responded to my message anyway...
