What I need is an app that can convert Mpeg to Mpeg VCD compitable files. QT can convert from mpeg to qt, but it is much simpler if I could convert a mpeg file directly to VCD than doing it in two steps.. anyone know of any such app?

If not, what codec should i use to convert from mpeg to avoid loss of quality?
I know that Animation is lossless, but.. its kinda heavy.. anyway; any suggestions?

A piece of shareware called VCDGear generates Toast Legal MPEG VCD files from a Quicktime MPEG stream (Assuming the stream is legal to begin with). Which can then easily be burnt. It's the best verifier anyway. Nothing more annoying than burning a CD and finding it's a coaster!!

You're not exactly clear on what you want to do but MJPEG-A set to single field and best quality (and the correct fps) is generally regarded as the handiest transition format. Also do your cropping and scaling to 352x240 at that stage rather than at the MPEG encoding stage as it tends to be slower and depending on whose MPEG encoder you're using the scaling can otherwise be crap.

Duh!

Toast 4.0 made VCD's, so did 3.5 in fact. But they can only make VCD's from a Toast Legal MPEG file which Quicktime does not create automatically, so go play with your crayons somewhere else fishface!

Feather's learn to do some research before mouthing off.

Toast5 will let you use ANY quicktime file as source. It includes a *VERY* good MPEG1 encoder.

Toast5 is a completely different product to Toast4 (different develeopment teams)

And is a terrific product.

Find out the facts first.
