I've got a PBTI with only 400MB free space left on it's 30GB HD, I've also got a G4 Cube with around 6-7GB left on it's HD, can I set Final Cut Pro to use my the free space on my Cubes HD to render too (my project totals 13GB of data so I can't simply transfer it to the Cube), say using FW Target disk mode?

Try it and see if you can select the Cube's hard drive. If not your next, best solution is to purchase a FireWire hard drive and use that.
