I have a question and I am COMPLETELY clueless.
I have a G4 / 667. I have a VHS tape with about 22 minutes of video AND audio I would like to burn to a cd.
How would I go about doing this? And please be very detailed on how this could be done if anyone knows.
I don't have DVD, only a cd burner on the computer.
And also won't a cd hold 22minutes of video and audio?
Thanks!

Firstly you are going to need some way of getting the Video onto your computer, Ther are several options available for this, but the only one I can think of at the moment is the sony media converter.
You can then edit this in iMovie, and burn it as a video CD using toast 5.
I think this is how to do it, but don't hold me to it.
I used to use a 6500/300 creative studeo with avid cinema, and a tv/video in/out card.

VCD Recorder
|
|
Hi!!
If any of you out there who can not afford the high-end G4 733MHZ with Superdrive, and want to create Video CDs as esay as pressing a
button, then the stand alone VideoCD(VCD) recorder is the answer. It costs about $500.
It records video from boardcast TV, DVDs, VCDs, Video tapes, and video camcorders into Video CDs(VCD) by using CD-R/CD-RW discs.
I think this VideoCD Recorder is even better than the Apple's SuperDrive. It doesn't need a computer to operate. So, it is just like a VCR.
Just go to the following, read about it, and buy it if you want.

GeekBoy, this is how I've done what you're asking for: Find a friend with a DV camera that has an analog in port. Hook it up to your VCR and record your 22 min to a miniDV tape. Plug the camcorder into the Firewire port on your computer and import the footage in iMovie. This takes quite a bit of hard drive space (4-5 GB).
To get it onto a CD you'll need to compress it. You can use Quicktime Pro or Media Cleaner EZ which is available as a free download (I'll find the URL for you). The Sorenson codec gives good results for me.
After a few hours you should have a Quicktime file that is small enough to burn.
Good luck!

I forgot that iMovie has built in compression, so that's probably the easiest way to go. Choose Export from the file menu, or something like that; I haven't used iMovie in a while...
Still, Media Cleaner EZ gives you more options. Get it at http://www.icanstream.com/downloads/index.html
BTW if you get Toast 5 you'll be able to encode and burn Video CDs that play in most consumer DVD players.
If you need more pointers, post back.

For about $100 you can get a ProTV PCI card (www.formac.com) and capture full-screen video directly to your Mac. It works great and, you'll be able to watch TV on your Mac as well!
