hi,
it has been a long time since I used my Divx player. This because the thing wasn't stable, a new player is under construction (see the url under my name).
divx is standard for video compression, files made by an encoder are .avi files. quality is good if you see the size of the files.

DivX isn't a standard for anything. DivX is a variation on Microsoft's warped implementation of the as yet unfinalised MPEG4 standard. DivX on Mac requires the WiMP (Windows Media Player) which is an apallingly buggy POS. 3ivx is the same guys as DivX . They have produced a beta codec for Quicktime which is as yet incomplete and not entirely stable (professor), but promises excellent results.

The name is a cheeky play on the defunct DVD standard that Dreamworks tried to adopt for the rental/sell-through video/DVD market where the disk became unplayable after about half a dozen plays!!!!! There is NO connection bewteen the two technologies except that one was an attempt to curtail video piracy and the other......
