I just started using Adobe Premiere 6.0 and the guy that gave it to me explained most of it quite well...but I have no idea what rendering does. Can anyone help me out?

Rendering is the merging of all video and effects layers (i.e. cross dissolves, overlays, titles, etc.) into a single video stream that can be played in real time.

When should I render my work? Before each save or before I export it?
