How can I edit a mpeg clip?

I am trying to cut an mpeg clip in half. I thought I could just cut and past it but that didn't work. I read the post below about exporting it as a dv stream. I did that and lost the audio. Tried using bbDEMUX but I couldn't import the files it saved into either imovie or FCP.

So now I am stumped. I can bring the dv file into FCP pro and cut it to the length I want but I have no sound. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

TIA

Select the portion of the clip that you want, then drag it (the visible image) out to the desktop.

Or if you really want FCP to read the demuxed file. In QT export video to QT mov. And compress the audio file into an MP3 with whatever.

For PC: you can decompress a mpeg by turning it back to AVI using something like virtualdub software.

In Mac:use quick time to decompress it to QT format the edit it.

ok i still am not having any luck here.

to recap what i have done. i tried extracting the audio/vidio with bbDEMUX but then i couldn't import the audio file into FCP or iMovie.

I tried exporting it as a DV stream and lost the audio, same withe exporting it as a quicktime movie.

i tried dragging the image to the deskp top and got a 1k file that did nothing. i tried to save it as a self containted movie but all it did was it as the original file.

So this really sucks. I need this done for business and would glady pay someone to do it.

Is there no way I can cut an mpeg clip in 2 with sound?

Right, first demux it with bbdemux, then you'll have to decode the MPEG1 Audio to AIFF, which can be done with Drop Decoder (get it here).
I don't know if FCP can work with MPEG video, but if not, you can export it from QT to a compatible format.
Then import the video and the audio file you got from Drop Decoder to FCP.

Finally what I was looking for. Why though can QT 6 Pro with MPEG-2 decoder not do what bbdemux do? Any ideas?
