Sometimes I wish to rejoin together 2 clips to form but I can't find out how to do it. The Control K (refila on my Italian OS) is always greyed out. Is there a way to do it?

Don't want to be stupid but why to you want to join them back together because if you butt the two up against each other, then there will be no apparent cut on playback. Is there some other reason you care?

I want to rejoin them together because in a couple of place I have split the film a frame or two early and I cannot now use an effect (such as fading from one scene to another) because the last frame is two short. IE the fading effect I want to use may take two seconds but I can't use it because the last frame is only one second long.

Well, my first answer is that the Undo command allows you to take back the last 10 actions you have performed on the edit. Even if you have to get rid of a few things you want to keep, go back far enough to take out the cut, then redo the steps you want to put back in. This will work unless you have emptied the trash inside the iMovie program.
