Greetings,

While working on a DV project in iMovie (v 1.0.1), my son experienced some problems. After completing the project, saving often as he has been taught, he then began to export to a Quicktime file. During this process the computer experienced a system error, and needed to be restarted.

Now, the iMovie project will not open. The error appears to be with the small 20k project file at the folder level. All media files still reside in the media folder.

Upon starting iMovie the following errors come up (in this order)..

1) Your project file is not readable
(OK)
2) Found 29 files that don't belong in the project folder. Okay to move them to the trash?
(Leave Files Alone) (Trash Unused Files)

3) There are 21 stray clip files in the project folder. 11 of them will be loaded onto the shelf for you (the other 10 won't fit).
(Cancel) (OK)

This is followed by a Type II error and the application crashes.

Any suggestions for how to recover this so my son does not have to redo it all?

Thanks in advance,

Craig

Hello to a fellow Marylander! Never heard of this problem before, but maybe try the following: Assuming iMovie itself is OK (if it's not just download it again), use iMovie to start a "new" project. Then just use the import commands to bring the old media files over to the new project. Once the new project is created and saved, you could also just manually move the media folder over to the new project. If it is the project file which was corrupted, this could well save the day. Let me know how it works.
