In iMovie, what's the best "expert" setting for the highest quality?

I don't like the pre-configured options iMovie gives. But I'm not sure what expert settings I should use. What is a good video compressor and audio compressor that give me the most quality for the lowest size? Sometimes I download really high quality movies (.mov) that aren't that large. I just don't know what the best settings are. Thanks for your help.
