Quicktime plays only some of movie

Anyone got the answer to this,, If i donwload a video clip lets say 110meg, all the video downloads and the file size is correct. However when i play the video only about 10 seconds of it will play because the time line is at the end. I have tried the exact same clip on another iMac (same spec) and it plays in full (3min30sec) against only 10secs on my machine.
I have even tried playing the clip by dragging it over the IE icon and i still get the same result. This is driving me mad.. my spec iMac 386 ram, 500mhz, quicktime pro v5 (latest version)
