Loss of audio sync on FCP

When editing DV in FCP I sometimes lose audio sync, 4.5 secs in 4 minutes or .5 sec in 30 sec TVC. I am using FCP in a G4 tower, the DV is firewired in via either a Sony DSR-20P deck or directly from a Canon XL-1.
Has any one else experienced this problem, I feel I am probably missing a preference setting, but I think I have tried everything. Any suggestions?

Canon camcorders have this problem when capturing long clips. Make sure that the autosync compensator is turned on in the preferences.
