I've been looking for a backup DV cam and choosen the Sony TRV900. Best price I can find is 1700. www.ccicameracity.com I was wondering where most of you get your DV needs met @ a good price. The camera is just an example, I'm more interested in DV stuff in general.

Thanks all

Be VERY VERY wary of prices that are too cheap. You don't have to spend long over on usenet or any of the e-commerce ranking sites to discover that there's a lot of shifty dealers out there. I've heard too many horror stories about people buying DV from some New York clearing house that waits 9 weeks to ship the product (but takes payment immediately), only to find out that they won't take any returns, and Sony won't honor the warranty.

I paid about $100 more to get mine from a respectable online dealer, but it was worth the peace of mind.

For what it's worth, my own shifty-dealer story had to do with some HP 970cxi's that I bought. After getting burned once, you'll never go back. I recommend that you not learn the lesson the hard way with a $1700 purchase.

To get to cheap sites, do one of two things: 1) Go to www.bealecorner.com. It's one of the best DV sites around, and a TRV900 shrine. It has links to all kinds of vendors. 2) Go to any shopper--cnet, pricewatch, whatever--and look up known DV equipment: TRV900, GL1, whatever you like. You'll get a list of dozens of DV retailers, and that can start you on your journey. Sherlock II does a decent job of finding good sites, too.

I hope this helps.

John
