It seems to me that this is doable. Does anyone know if this works and if so are there any problems I sould know about?

This is certainly doable. Simply use iMovie (or QuickTime Pro) to play the movie full screen, and then hit record on your VCR. The processis similar to exporting your iMovie back to your camera, and then dubbing it down to VHS.

I'm not sure why you would want to do this however. True you are saving a step, but the camera control with iMovie makes recording from your iBook less tricky, and there is no real need to skip this step. With the DV format there is no generational loss in quality going fromthe iBook to the camera. You only loose one generation (DV to VHS) either way.
