I have a Powerbook Wallstreet 233, and I was wondering if anyone has added a Firewire card to their Wallstreet and had success in using iMovie to capture digital video. The Readme for iMovie 1.0 says a 300 Mhz G3 is required, but that there is limited functionality with less than that. I know this may be stretching my 2-year-old Powerbook's capabilities a bit, but I though I'd at least ask.

Thanks,
Andrew

Any of the OHCI (Open Host Controller Interface) compliant cards should work fine with your PowerBook. Make sure you have plenty of RAM (128-1256MB), and plenty of space available on your internal disk. I've used iMovie on a 292MHz WallStreet and it is very useable for smaller projects.

I'm not sure if CardBus offers enough bandwidth to control the camera, preview on the camera, and read/write data from an external firewire disk, but it may be your only option if you still have the original 2GB disk in your 'Book.

Good luck!

BTW - Don't expect stuff to render all that fast, and I doubt you will get the full screen prieview to work well.

I have a PB2400 with a 240mhz upgrade card and an Orange Micro FW card it works fine, albeit a little slow. The greatest miracle of all is that I shouldn't even be able to use the CardBus! Encoding 30 minutes of video takes about 8 hours (eek)! Trust me it works.

Thanks for your assistance! I guess I'll go ahead and give it a try when I get the cash. If this thread is still open when I get it, I'll post the results of how it works.
